Starting under saddle (Colt Starting)
From the first moment you introduce yourself to a horse, you are teaching him .Feel and timing are everything with a horse. This is true from the ground as well as from the saddle. Saltrivers approach focuses on presenting yourself to a horse in the best way that suits the horse – so you can help him to be confident, light, and responsive and to have a positive attitude. A horse needs to learn what it takes to be with us and around us in a positive and productive frame of mind and body. From the first saddling, to the first ride, colt starting is an ART Having your horse started under saddle should be an investment in his future. A solid foundation, based on mutual trust, respect, and communication, is absolutely necessary for every horse, no matter the breed, discipline, age or experience. Using the principles of “horsemanship’, your horse will get the best start possible, and will develop the best foundation possible. Saltrivers goal is to get the horse mentally right so that it can be physically right. The more knowledge you have about a horse’s start, the more you’ll be able to help him along the way… and the more you know about the finish you want to put on a horse (his ultimate job – where you want to go with him once he’s a riding horse), the better you’ll be with giving him his start. What is developed here will be a secure, confident, willing partner. Saltriver refuses to compromise your horse’s dignity to get instant results. We will not use collar ropes, hobbles and blindfolds to acheive results. We will achieve faster, longer-lasting results than most other “professional trainers” by creating an environment wherein the horse wants to learn and work with the human, rather than in spite of the human. Saltrivers proven method of building self confidence makes it irrelevent where the future may lead , your horse will be prepared for any specialized discipline. Saltriver encourages clients to watch their horses starting process, and as horsemanship clinicians are able to teach how to maintain the solid foundation and progressions into your chosen discipline. What to expect when your horse is ready to come home!
