|
Saltriver Performance Horses was established in 2000 by Heath and Kellie Stewart. Nestled in the slightly undulating terrain of Baker Hill WA the160 acre property was purchased in 2003 to set up an equine facility to cater for many facets of the industry. The property is continuing to be developed to the highest standard and provides quality equine services including first class breeding facilities and custom designed training facilities catering for colt starting, training, clinics and workshops.
Saltriver is also home to Heath and Kellies Australian Stock Horse and performance horse Stud. Standing two stallions and a band of mares that contain impeccable ASH and QH genetics that allow them to produce world class performance horses that are able to suit many equestrienne disciplines and perform at the top of any competition field.
Heath has started, trained or ridden well over 1000 horses in all mainland states of Australia, and specializes in linking horsemanship to competition. Upon finishing school Heath went jackerooing in the Kimberley of WA which gave him a solid base in stockmanship. Slowly he went more towards his main passion- horses, starting up a small business he travelled from station to station throughout the Kimberley and NT starting colts for the large pastoral properties, taking trips to the east to compete on his horses and at the same time starting colts and doing some droving work. Eventually he came and settled back in southern WA and that is where he met Kellie Stewart nee Spencer.

Kellie has also started and worked with well over 1000 horses and people, and has the desire for further knowledge and understanding of the horses and the human. This has her on track in her aim to become one of the world leaders in horsemanship and the philosophy of the horse/human dynamic. Her ultimate goal is to have humans create a synergistic balanced relationship with their equine partners.
Kellie was not born into a family with equine interests, just a girl in the suburbs who loved horses. Her first horse was purchased through work and pocket money and she went through the typical Pony Club ranks, dressage, jumping and then a bit of barrel racing later on. Kellie then moved into polocrosse playing all grades successfully for at least 25 yrs. Kellie started searching for something different in her approach to horses and horsemanship as she felt that what she was doing with the wide variety of horses she was involved with was not working, it was then she attended her first Ray Hunt clinic in 1999.
Kellie sought to attend most of Rays clinics when he was in Australia starting colts, working cattle and riding in the horsemanship class. In Feb 2009 She was invited to spend a month with Ray at his ranch in Era Texas this was a blessing as Ray passed away in March 2009. Attending that first clinic with Ray changed everything Kellie did with horses from that moment on, and everything she does today is based on the philosophy of Ray Hunt and Tom Dorrance.
Kellie also has extensive experience in the veterinary industry working as a vet nurse upon graduating from school through to her mid twenties has given her the knowledge required for rehabilitating injured horses. Kellie also shares 15 plus years in equine breeding, she regulary updates knowledge with Advanced equine reproduction specialists world wide.
Kellie and Heath realise that when working with horses and people - you can never stop learning! having this understanding they do attend horsemanship clinics world wide and regualry consult with like minded clinicians for discsussions on horsemanship - But they ultimatley unsterstand the horse is their best teacher!
Heath and Kellie have extensive practical knowledge combined with a thirst to understand the horse and human mind. This research is then put it into a format that can unlock the rider’s innate ability to achieve results they never imagined possible.
